A Hop Towards Food Security

Tonight I brought home a young buck rabbit – he’s an English Lop (allegedly) and currently 3 and a half months old. That’s still too young to breed but it won’t be long before he’s in business and I hope he’ll prove one of the founding sires of the food/fur rabbits I’m planning to breed.

Freckles, 3.5 months, English Lop buck.

It takes two to tango, of course, and tomorrow I’m hoping to bring home an ermine (white) Rex doe of about the same age. Since the Rex gene is a recessive, their offspring in due course will have a normal rabbit coat, but their grandchildren should start reverting to rex from time to time and hopefully the colours from the English will carry over into the babies as well.
